Alex Grey & Tadanori Yokoo: Website Evaluation & Comparision

In this post I will be comparing the websites of Alex Grey and Tadanori Yokoo. I will be looking at the design, layout, colour palette, typography and also technical aspects such as navigation, ease of use, presentation of galleries and how easy it is to use and understand the artist.

Alex Grey

I will begin with Alex Grey  The website looks professional. First i opened the homepage with impressive 3D image visual effects.  This image emphasise the style in which the artist works. Navigation button with the main menu is at the top of the page, exactly where it should be. Although the image is impressive and it’s huge.

After i moved to an additional menu with following options such as "Art", "Writing", About", "News", "Events", "Contact", "Cosm", "Shop", "Search", "Use of Art". This is ok but when I opened this page first time, I was struggled to find this "menu button" I would prefer to see menu all the time. But when the menu is hidden, you can fully see the images that are presented on the home page.

Later I moved to section "Entheon: Sanctuary of Visionary Art" where i found art with special moving effects. The more interesting part is in a section called "Recent Works" When I click on an example of one of the works, a page opens with many others. Then i moved lower where there are three videos in the YouTube window. we can also go directly to Grey's channel here.

After I moved to the bottom of the page and I found there  "The Art of tool" section with four images and three quotations about Grey. Later is his link to Instagram including photos. I would like to create my page like Alex. Everything is big readable with social media ,galery and much more.

Next page I moved to "Art" category and I saw the next menu bar on the top left "Home" and "Art".  After clicking on art I can chose what I looking for from  the list of all categories of images. Everything is organized and readable.

I like Alex's webpage everything is done in a very nice style. Moving from page to page is easy and smoothly.

Tadanori Yokoo

The second website I will be looking at is Tadanori YokooAfter entering the site, I saw a menu bar on the left with active mobile tabs like "Home", "Yokoo's Vision", "Profile", "Information", "Exhibition", "Contact", "Online Store" and something in Japanese . below i saw twitter facebook instagram.

what I liked is the changing artist's images on the home page

but after clicking on the image it took me to a store where everything is in Japanese. I don’t fully understand this page and im little confused. Page looks very primitive. I checked copyright at the bottom of the page and its “ COPY RIGHT 2006 BY ART PLANET.Y ALL RIGHT RESERVED”

Then I clicked on profiles and I sow long list full of dates, probably it's a biography or something like that. The list starts with the date of birth 1936 and then there are lots of exhibitions up to 2019. I don't know why the copyright is 2006 and not 2019

Here is view of all webpage,

On left side is menu bar after I clicked on Yokoo's Vision the page opened in Japanese

Same happened when I jumped to "online shop"

On the home page there is a choice of English or Japanese language, but if I chose English, sometimes various elements are in Japanese.

In summary. The font is simple. Clicking on icons on menu bar,  sometimes took me to some Japanese pages from where I didn't know how to get back. It's nice that the menu is the same on the left side in most pages. This page is very different from Alex Grey’s page, which is more complex smoothly readable and clean.
