Workshop Sessions: Ceramics clay

Today I was at the: Ceramics clay workshops.  Mr. James introduced me how to use and manipulate with clay. Firstly he described the tools and after that made a demonstration for me and my collegues.

After that everyone cut using wire a part of clay. When I have my part I sat down in my desk and start thinking what I could make. The best idea was to make a parrot. First I thought to create parrot in standing position in 3D. The problem was to establish position ,parrot was big to to make it in approximately 1 hour. I started making first shape.

Then after few mistakes especially making details by hands I started using tools. By the way my girlfriend have a birthday few days ago. So I thought it would be good idea to make something for her. When i finished with shape and details I took another piece of clay and began making a the legs, and the wing… When I completed ,I again used the tools to make shape and details then I realise its would be great to make a branch of tree and the heart with my and my girlfriend initials.

After that I used knife to made a fracture of brunch of tree and feathers but i didn’t took ,a photo of this…
In next step James helped me to create “things” to hold on screw the parrot on the wall. So he made hole and added to it clay to hold it on screw. Then he advise me to make it flat on the wall I have to add some ammout of material to keep it well balanced so I made it like he advice.

At the one od workshops I leaved the parrot to dry, I will back to it after approximately two weeks.

I really enjoy this workshops ,the ceramics making is one of the oldest type of art and have many benefits like for example As Soulceramics.com state “Engaging with pottery provides a unique form of stress relief and mental health support.”  After workshops I felt and still feel relaxed , this is it!

*this workshops could be useful in my project, I could add layer of “glass” to my clay sculpture but its long process and its not possible to finish it to deadline ,anyway I could do it after. I made progress in using tools and it will be very useful in my project!
