Artist Research: Alexey Titarenko

Today Im looking at Alexey Titarenko photos. He is a Russia photographer born in 1962. He is more modern than Dmitri Baltermants and I want to look at him as my inspiration for third part of my project showing Koszalin after WW2.  The first series of photos im going to look are made by Alexey in Havana. I was in Cuba especialy havana Varadero and Trinidad few years ago so it will  be fantastic to look again a this landscape. Cuba have interesting story and many buildings and car are 50s years.

Titarenko ,.Dilemma 2006

Photo depict old car from 50 and 6 mens, one of them might be repairing the car. The photo is generally dark perfectly showing this days atmosphere.  As Abbott (2015) state 'His Havana appears caught in a dream. Simultaneously of the present while trapped in stasis, it is by turns an appealing and uncomfortable place, one filled with light but dominated by gray, populated by beautiful and shadowy traces of reality and built of unsettled hopes. ' Its past in modern ,unique place in the world, like time maschine. Next series of photos is called 'city of shadows' photo I want to discuss is Kuptchino Railway Station from 1993.

Titarenko  Kuptchino Railway Station (1993)

The photo called Kuptchio Railway Station here Titarenko used blurry technique to emphasise the movement and to show people like a ghosts. To get this effect as www.all-about-photo.com, (n.d.) state 'One of Titarenko's most significant contributions to the field of photography is his use of the technique of layering. In many of his images, he blends multiple exposures of the same scene, creating a complex and layered image that is both abstract and representational. ' I known this technique, before in a past I made an image by connecting a few photos to get one. Third photo im going to look at is Pigeons on tables.

Titarenko Pigeons on tables (2006)

This photo depict a dark ,sadly atmosophere with tables without people. Insted of people Titarenko catch up on a photo a Pigeons. Photo was taken in the Venice city in Italy. There are buildings ,street , people on the background. I want to learn form Titarenko photos how to set better composition of a landscape ,buildings etc.

Looking at Alexey Titarenko I found some information about his technique as state Photography West (2024) While the artist utilizes nineteenth century techniques such as prolonged exposure, solarization and chemical toning, he is constantly searching for new possibilities. As a result, Titarenko has developed a unique style, “metaphorical photography,” defined by the third dimension, that of time.” This shows that to get unique style I sill can use old  methods , methods of  Titarenko also showed how life going quick and.  I want to use a knowledge  from Titarenko about how important is chose a place to get top results, additionally learnt how to show time lapse in my paintings.

*Couple days later  I tried to learn how to make blur effect in my paintings as Titarenko photos, so I painted a models on prepared canvas board.

Then I used a dry brush to make a blur effect.

  1. As in my previous comment, if you were wanting to mimic Titarenko's technique, how would you do it? These last two research posts leave questions regarding how you might use this as visual research.
